What to do with this activity?
It's not too difficult to make a bow and arrow - why not have a go? You need a flexible but strong stick, and string for the bow. Find strong straight thinner sticks for arrows. Might be a good idea to go for a walk in the woods to find what you need.
Here are a couple of Youtube videos to show you how to go about it. Your child will need some help to find what is necessary, and to use any sharp tools safely. Watch this boy make a simple bow and arrow; and here's a video from "How to make stuff". If you would like to follow written instructions, try this link from Instructables.com.
Play safe with the bow and arrow. Take aim at a cardboard target and never point the arrow at another person.

Why am I doing this?
One of the ways children learn is through play. A child who is playing is refining learning skills that continue to develop during childhood and beyond. Indoor and outdoor games are a great way of practising some of the reading, writing and number skills your child has learned.

How can I do more?
Encourage your child to teach you a game – letting them teach you something is empowering for your child.
