What to do with this activity?
Get to know all about a country when you come across it together. It might have been mentioned because of a sporting or news event, through food that your child likes, people you meet, or for whatever reason.
How different is that country from Ireland? Just looking at where a country is on the map will help build your knowledge!
The National Geographic for kids website has lots of information about each country. Put the word "countries" into the search box and scroll down to the country you want to find more about.
Look up Ireland as well so that you know what is said about us! See how other country's population compares to the Irish population - 4,609,600 in the 2014 Census.
Challenge each other with the online game Geospy. See how many continents and countries you can guess correctly. It's quite difficult, but it's a good way of learning.

Why am I doing this?
Playing is one of the most effective ways children learn. It builds your child’s concentration and thinking skills as well as building their skills in using numbers, seeing patterns and being able to group things together. Playing games with others helps their social skills and gives them a chance to practice things they have heard and seen.

How can I do more?
Playing games that involve words are great for increasing your child’s vocabulary. Games that involve dices and numbers help with maths and logical reasoning.
